Millions of people all over the world are addicted to a small stick of rolled paper with dried nicotine infused leaves inside. Regardless of the many advertisements on the hazards of smoking, they seem to neglect their own health for momentary pleasure.

However, if you are someone struggling to get over the nicotine dependence, here are some ways on how you could quit smoking before it takes its toll on your health.

First of all, know that any type of vice is deeply embedded in the recesses of your brain. That means that lack of it makes your brain crave for it. The best and most effective way to quit smoking is by conditioning your brain by telling it that no, you do not need a nicotine fix. As they say, mind over matter.

Next, there are various nicotine substitutes available in the market today such as the nicotine patch. There are also nicotine free cigarettes which help you cope but they are effective mostly for oral fixations and not really nicotine dependence. Find a product that you feel comfortable using and experiment with it.

Also, you could undergo therapy with a psychologist. As mentioned, nicotine dependence is something that has to do with the brain so someone who helps deal with issues of the brain can help you with your dilemma.

Another way to stop smoking is by engaging in activities that actually takes your mind off of the habit. If you notice that you tend to smoke during free time, occupy most of your free times with work or extracurricular activities. This will reduce idle time where you are free to smoke to your lung’s content.

Smoking has hundreds of negative effects to your system so before it’s not yet late, better stop puffing from the cancer sticks and start living a clean and healthy life.
